STORRS — A University of Connecticut student died Thursday afternoon after an apparent "medical emergency," the school said in a statement Friday morning.

Officials have not released the student's name or age.

Around 1:25 p.m. Thursday, UConn public safety personnel were called to a room at the North residence complex in Storrs, according to Stephanie Reitz, a spokesperson for the school.

Upon arrival, they were directed to a room in which the resident had been found unresponsive," Reitz said.

Reitz said UConn fire officials provided emergency medical treatment until Windham Hospital EMS arrived and pronounced the student dead.

No other students were treated or transported to the hospital as a result of the call, she said.

Reitz said the student was an undergraduate who lived in the room where the medical emergency occurred. The complex is an on-campus housing collection of 11 dorms, she said.
