I think another common theory is that the very few friendly wolves to humans became welcomed by humans and the friendly wolves survived better than the non-friendlys because humans would feed them scraps, and basically darwinian evolution happened over multiple generations. Being a friendly wolf was a became a survival mechanism, and it eventually became symbiotic relationship as these wolves would also want to protect the source of their food providers over time.
The opposite is also true as well, where humans who viewed these wolves favorably had higher survival rate over time, and now many humans are almost pre-disposed to love dogs or find them adorable.
