Announced over 7 years ago in 2015, the Five Nights At Freddy's film has seen its share of ups and downs on its way to the big screen. When the film was first announced the production was originally helmed by Roy Lee who has credits on The Ring and The Grudge, both of which are American adaptations of Japanese horror titles. Scott Cawthon, the series creator, was also expected to have a large part of the film's development.

In 2017 the production flipped into the hands of Blumhouse, who had a track record of horror hits with exceptionally small-scale budgets. There were rumors of rewrites for the script and in 2021, the film lost its director, Chris Columbus. Many of the early issues stemmed from Cawthon supposedly having full control of how the project was being made, with him often rejecting scripts and coming into conflict with directors.

In October 2022 it was announced the director of the slow-burn horror film The Wind, Emma Tammi, would be set to direct. Now, the new leaks of the set seem to indicate that the film has finally begun shooting.
